First off you may be asking yourself what is Raw Femme? Well, Raw Femme is an on-line publication that showcases female talent from emerging artist in fashion, design, art, and music. Which has turned into a united group of talented women who are driven to rock the world with their amazing talent. More than just an on-line publication it has grown into fantastic events like the first ever all female First Friday event that happened on July 1 aptly titled Femme Friday. Following up the success was shortly thereafter at an October 22 event Beauty and the Beats. This event of an all female line up united with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society Strides Against Breast Cancer. We had a chance to interview this awesome gal check out what she had to say:
Why the name Raw Femme? What does it mean to you? The term Raw Femme is how I have always defined myself. A woman who was never afraid to be her true self, feminine but with an edge. What or who was your inspiration to take this project on?
Women have always taken a backseat, especially in the arts. I felt it was time to create a platform for women of all creative mediums to have a place to share their voice and talent with the world. I never shy away from sharing anyone’s work, whether your art is a passion project or your livelihood. On a personal level, I grew up around strong women my entire life. I truly believe that my Mom, Grandma, and Aunts have all instilled the best parts of themselves in me. They each have their own passions and character traits that I strongly admire.
What are your future plans for Raw Femme where to you hope to see it in a year from now? In one year from now, I aim for Raw Femme to have become the organization known for fostering women in the creative industry, both locally and beyond. I want for women to hear “Raw Femme” and immediately know that is a platform where their passions are be celebrated while continuing to produce female-centric events that positively impact our community. I also have plans in place that will offer representation for women artists, a clothing line, and more! The sky is the limit.
What advice would you give Female entrepreneurs and artists who are starting out? My advice is to simply put the effort in to just try. You are going to run into many bumps along the road, but you cannot lose your motivation to meet your end goal, no matter how long it may take you to get there. We all have a fire inside of us, it’s just waiting to be ignited. And, most importantly, surround yourself with good and positive people. You’ll need a support system from time to time 🙂
What inspires you? Inspiration is everywhere. Whether it’s through words, art, music, a loved one, a stranger’s story, achievements, and failures. I find inspiration in every aspect of life. To keep up to date you can follow her on:
